Football vs Kearsney College

Home and away

THE U15 AND U14 FOOTBALL TEAMS played at St Charles College this morning while the U16 and Open teams travelled to Botha's Hill. Above, in the U15A game a defender gets a grip on the game - and Travis Daff into the bargain - watched by Justin Goldstone and Pavi Indjarith. On the left Monwabisi Goba enjoys the U15B's game. Below left are Jarrod Monteiro, Keagan Curten and Morné Hamman. Below right Monteiro drives the ball forwards with Devond Hesse in attendance who then scored the Saints U15A's second goal of the morning. Below the first U15A goal is being shot forwards for a goal. (Photos: Mr Justin Waldman) Mr Dave Karlsen writes: "In the past seven days we have been to:
· 3 athletics meetings
· 2 league golf matches
· Around 60 soccer matches
· 8 tennis matches
· 6 sevens matches
· I have not counted the number of hockey matches in the Prep.
Who said this was a "slow" term? Guess what though - no stress, lots of smiling, happy staff and boys!

Smashing tennis

U15 and U17 tennis thriving

THE U17 AND U15 TENNIS TEAMS are enjoying the attention being received in this sport at the College - with three teams in the U17 age group and four teams in the U15 age group in the local leagues. Looking at the results, their campaigns are going very well. The photos above were taken on Monday afternoon, 26 July, at Voories where the Saints U17B side met up with boys from the school's A side. The U17B side will meet the A side at the St Charles College courts on Wednesday afternoon - which promises to be a battle royal.

Gray flies flag for KZN

Re-award of Provincial Colours

GRADE 12 STUDENT, BYRON GRAY, received a re-award of KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Youth Colours for Sailing. He was previously awarded colours in 2006 when sailing in the Optimist class. Having now graduated to a Laser, Byron is showing all the athleticism this physically demanding yacht requires - which, given the competition in the Province, is no mean feat.

Well done Byron! Congratulations from us all.

Football on Harwin

Seniors up against city rivals

FOOTBALL WAS BACK AT HARWIN ROAD this afternoon as city rivals, Maritzburg College, visited with their First XI boys for a mid-week game. It was a close fought tussle with both sides energetically trying for a goal - with none forthcoming - the score 0-0 was probably fair with several close shaves for both sides. Thanks for the game Maritzburg College.

Preps take over Saints Hockey

Seniors football in Durban North

WITH THE SENIOR SCHOOL AWAY IN DURBAN at Northwood playing football (where the First XI came away with a superb win) the St Charles Prep School hosted Virginia Preparatory School on Friday and Felixton, Laddsworth and Winterton on Saturday to a series of hockey matches.

Mr Dave Karlsen writes: "St Charles College versus Northwood High School - Result St Charles 3 Northwood 0

The season started with much enthusiasm from the World Cup and the boys were inspired by the magnificent FIFA laid surface at Northwood. This allowed for flowing, good passing football.
The first half witnessed a real battle for dominance in the midfield with Northwood enjoying more of the possession.  The majority of the play was in the St Charles half although most it was concentrated mostly between the 18-yard boxes. Only one corner was forced by Northwood in the first half.
With St Charles showing a well organised defence Northwood had few chances at goal.
Counter attacking well St Charles forced a few good saves from the Northwood goalie.
Halftime: 0-0
The introduction of Uli Fischer saw St Charles seize control of the mid-field. With the immensely talented Fischer controlling the game St Charles was able to build a number of attacks on the Northwood goal.
Changing from the route one football of the first half St Charles were able to build from the back and with the midfielders working hard off the ball they were able to create space for their strikers. Two of the three goals came from fluid passing football which was a joy to behold. Junaid Camp scored a brace of goals while Keith Sithole timing his run perfectly scored the other from a well worked set piece.
Northwood increased their efforts to try and get back into the game but Keagan David marshalled his defence well and the very talented Dundas Clark pulled off two excellent saves from breakaways by Northwood.
"
